Jaakko Pöyry Group Appointed Consultant for Pre-engineering of the Helsinki Metro Extension


A consortium consisting of Soil and Water Ltd, a Jaakko Pöyry Group company, and SCC Viatek Oy has been appointed main consultant for carrying out a feasibility study and preliminary engineering of the western extension of the Helsinki Metro.

The assignment commissioned by Helsinki City Transport and the City of Espoo consists of preliminary engineering, a feasibility study and project co-ordination for the proposed metro line from Ruoholahti to Matinkylä totalling 12 km of track and 6-8 stations. The total value of the order is about EUR 1.5 million. This phase of the project will be completed at the end of 2001.

Based on this assignment the City of Helsinki and the City of Espoo will decide during 2002 on the continuation of engineering work for implementation of the Helsinki Metro extension.
